श्रीलंकन मुलका अष्ट्रेलियन प्रशिक्षक डेभ वाटमोर नेपाली राष्ट्रिय क्रिकेट टिमको मुख्य प्रशिक्षक नियुक्त भएका छन् । नेपाल क्रिकेट संघ (क्यान)ले शुक्रबार विज्ञप्ति जारी वाटमोर एक वर्षका लागि नेपाली टिमको मुख्य प्रशिक्षक नियुक्त भएको जनाएको छ ।

क्यानले पहिलो पटक खुल्ला प्रतिस्पर्धाका आधारमा मुख्य प्रशिक्षक नियुक्त गरेको हो। नेपाली टिमको मुख्य प्रशिक्षक बन्न वाटमोरसहित १२ जना प्रतिस्पर्धामा थिए । पूर्वप्रशिक्षक पुवुदु दशानायके, अपूर्व सुबोधभाइ देसाइ, नेइल क्याक्रेइलगायत प्रशिक्षक बन्ने दौडमा थिए ।

वि वक्तव्य जारी गर्दै वाटमोरलाई मुख्य प्रशिक्षक नियुक्त गरेको जानकारी दिएको हो । नेपालमा क्षमतवान खेलाडीहरु रहेको र क्रिकेटमा नेपालको भविश्य उज्जल भएकाले वाटमोर नयाँ चुनौतीका लागि तयार भएको उनका म्यानेजर कौश्तभ लाहिरीले बताएका छन् ।

विश्वकप विजेता प्रशिक्षक वाटमोरको तलब मासिक १० हजार डलर आसपास छ । कर लगायतका विषय टुंगो लागेपछि यो तय हुने बताइएको छ । वाटमोरले सन् १९९६ मा श्रीलंकालाई विश्वकप जिताएका थिए ।

यसैगरी क्यानको महाप्रवन्धकमा रौनक मल्ल र क्रिकेट म्यानेजरमा विनोद दास नियुक्त भएका छन् । नेपाली क्रिकेट टिमका पूर्वकप्तान एवं प्रशिक्षक समेत रहेका दासको जिम्मेवारी क्रिकेटसम्बन्धी सम्पूर्ण गतिविधि हेर्ने छन् ।

को हुन् वाटमोर ?

श्रीलंकाको कोलम्बोमा जन्मेका वाटमोरको परिवार सन् १९६२ मा अष्ट्रेलिया गएको थियो । उनले अष्ट्रेलियामै क्रिकेट सिके र राष्ट्रिय टिमको प्रतिनिधित्व पनि गरे । खेलाडीका रुपमा एक दशक बिताएका वाटमोरले अष्ट्रेलियन टिमबाट ७ टेष्ट, एक एकदिवसीय खेल खेलका छन् । साथै उलने २६ लिस्ट ए, १०८ फस्ट क्लास म्याच खेलेका छन् ।

सन् १९८८र८९ मा खेलाडी जीवनबाट सन्न्यास लिएपछि वाटमोर प्रशिक्षणतिर लागेका थिए । उनले टेस्ट राष्टहरु श्रीलंका, बंगलादेश, पाकिस्तान र जिम्बाबेको समेत प्रशिक्षण सम्हालिसकेका छन् । १९९६ मा श्रीलंकाले विश्वकप जित्दा वाटमोर प्रशिक्षक थिए । उनले २००३ को विश्वकपमा भने श्रीलंकालाई उनले सेमिफाइनलमा पुर्‍याएका थिए ।

वाटमोरकै प्रशिक्षणमा २००५ मा बंगलादेशले पहिलो टेष्ट म्याच जितेको थिएत्यो भने कार्डिफमा भएको एकदिवसीय क्रिकेटमा अष्ट्रेलियालाई हरायो । २००७ को विश्वकपमा बंगलादेश ‘सुपर–एट’ का लागि छनोट पनि भएको थियो । उनी २००७ मा भारतको नेसनल क्रिकेट एकेडेमीको निर्देशक बने भने यू–१९ टिम पनि सम्हाले । त्यही बेला भारतले यू–१९ विश्वकप जित्यो ।

उनले आईपिएल टिम कोलकाता नाइटराइडर्सलाई पनि प्रशिक्षण दिइसकेका छन् । २०१० र २०११ मा आईपीएल टिम कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्सको प्रशिक्षक बनेका थिए । ४ मार्च २०१२ मा पाकिस्तान टिमको प्रशिक्षक नियुक्त भएका वाटमोरले पाकिस्तानलाई एसियाकप जिताएका थिए । पाकिस्तानमा सम्झौता सकिएपछि जिम्बाब्वे पुगेका उनले त्यहाँ पूरा काम गर्न पाएनन् । २०२० फेब्रअरीदेखि वाटमोर सिंगापुर क्रिकेट टिमको मुख्य प्रशिक्षक थिए ।
